Society for the Prevention of Road Accidents (SPRA)
SPRA was founded by Mr. Ravi Garyali in 2022 as a non-profit organization with a mission to initiate programs that can help prevent road accidents in India and thus reduce the number of fatalities. SPRA aims at enforcing road safety awareness in India by working closely with authorities to maximize safety of citizens. Our goal is to create a system where road safety is given top most priority as the current accident rate in our country is staggering.
Due to various factors such as poor road conditions, speeding, non-adherence to safety norms, the number of road accidents stands at 4,50,000 annually. The death toll in these mishaps is as high as nearly 1,50,000 equating to 17+ death/hour. The “severity of accidents” has also risen and is a clear indication of how unsafe our roads are.
SPRA’s first step was to ensure safety of children in heavy traffic zones. The focus therefore has been to create a safe movement zone with the assistance of volunteering parents. For this, we liaise with the local traffic police in the area and take their assistance at traffic signals and crossings.
Road safety is our mission and our aim is to establish robust SOP’s which are followed stringently. The government of India also recognizes the urgent requirement to promote safety on roads.
We at SPRA are committed to play our part through awareness and advocacy to promote road safety.
